The early music group Bartholomew Faire presents a program “For As Many As Will: Music from the Playford’s Dancing Master,” performed on a dazzling variety of period instruments including the pipe & tabor, lute, hurdy-gurdy, harp, citole, oud, and bladderpipe. The Dancing Master is the classic compendium of English country dance tunes. With their usual gusto and inventiveness, Bartholomew Faire brings these melodies to life, their fascinating instruments supplemented by a robust continuo section. This “living museum of music instruments” is where Renaissance and Baroque music meets jazz sensibilities and living folk traditions.
